Sunday 17th January - bike **** - Felixstowe to Nacton Shores – mainly sunny.

After yesterdays foul weather, rain and wind all day but no snow so with sunshine forecast today with the breeze dropping we were keen to get out on the bikes. After a morning at home, we left home around midday and with all the rain of late our favourite footpaths are all but unusable :( We are not keen on cycling on roads because there are hundreds of motorists out to get you! This was borne out as we biked along Trimley High Street which was very busy with several cars getting close, people drive so fast! It was a head wind so hard going to start as we took the cycle path along the A 14, luckily no lorries whizzing past today. Turning off towards Levington things quietened down. Now on the old A 14 we turned towards Ipswich near the crematorium before turning left to Nacton past the large impressive Orwell School. There was a steady stream of traffic heading to Nacton Shore carpark, a very popular spot even in lockdown, I suspect many had driven too far to get here but you need to get out for some air for the sake of your sanity! Coming out on the banks of the Orwell with the tide nearly high it looked pretty as a picture and sat on a bench for a cup of soup and to watch the world go by:) There were several people passing, dog walkers and families out and I suggested taking our bikes along the footpath on the cliff top. Mag was not keen because of the people but most people were walking on the beach and the top path was very quiet:) This is a lovely path with stunning views down to the river. Coming out of the woods you get a nice scene down to Levington Marina but sadly no deer here today. The path down was very muddy with some deep puddles but we cycled slowly and made it through OK. We then pushed our bikes around Levington Creek so we could see the many birds, mainly ducks. Then out onto the road before turning down to the marina and past the next muddy section by Loompit Lake! It was a hill out through the farm to the various country lanes and bridle ways back to Trimley. We were pleased to see 25+ deer in the middle of the three tree field, always a pleasure to see them. All we had then was Blofield Lane leading to Felixstowe, we were out for 3 hours covering over 17 miles and not cold at all but we were well wrapped up. The cats were pleased to see us as we tucked into a cuppa and cake:)
